About Me

I’ve been passionate about photography since I was 16 years old, when I bought my first Canon SLR film camera. Over the years I combined this passion with my love of travelling, taking beautiful photographs of my trips around the world. Upon 'going digital' in the 2000's I began to explore portrait photography and was always being asked to bring my camera along to weddings and parties of friends and family. People began to comment upon the professional quality of my work and encouraged me to pursue it further. Feeling inspired, I got involved with studio portrait workshops and found that I had a natural ability to connect with people, making them feel relaxed in front of the camera and getting fantastic images.

In 2014 I co-founded Photolux Limited, a successful event photography business concentrating upon school proms. It’s through my work with Photolux that I’ve gained opportunities to explore wedding and family photography, something that I now offer independently through Matt Allen Photography.

You’ll find that I’m a warm, relaxed and approachable person, always working with the utmost professionalism. Quality is at the heart of everything that I do and I’ll not settle for anything that’s less than what I’d expect to receive myself. I’m passionate about photography and this shows through in the images that I capture. I’d be honoured to have the opportunity to work with you, be it capturing your special day or a precious moment in time.

In 2020 I met my now wife, Joy. We soon discovered a shared love of photography and it wasn’t long before Joy was accompanying me to weddings to help out with lighting set-ups and capturing candid images of couples and their wedding guests. It became obvious very quickly that Joy has a natural eye for detail and a wonderful talent for capturing beautiful images, through her innate ability to instantly connect with people. She also has great dance moves and can always been found livening up the dance floor, camera in hand, capturing all of those fun moments!

Fast-forward a few years and it was Joy that gave me the confidence to commit full-time to my photography, a career that I absolutely adore, almost as much as her! The natural progression was also for Joy to begin working alongside me as my second photographer, a role in which she’s flourished and very much made her own. The couples that we work with love the fact that we’re a husband and wife photography team and the majority of weddings that I cover now have us booked working together.
